Andreas Patz: Christians and an extreme form of hatred

The world will certainly not be the same now. We need to somehow adapt to live in it. In the changed and different world. The main task at the same time is to try to remain, firstly, as human beings and secondly, Christians, brothers and sisters. The last one is a problem. It is not known why, unbelieving people, and even convinced atheists, turn out to be much more compassionate and merciful than us Christians. Paradox?

One way or another, today we are witnessing some kind of endless “two-minute hate”. On the one hand, there are cries for justice and help, calls and (too often) curses; on the other – a complete “blessing”: “Go in peace, keep warm and eat.” It is obvious that the first is a consequence of the second.

The latter, with the calmness of a snake like constrictor, is trying to convince the former that war is peace and freedom is slavery, that the Nazis in this coordinate system have the right to consistently and cruelly destroy a nation they don’t like, while calling this nation “Nazis” and the indifference of Christians is a manifestation of love.

Indifference is an extreme form of hatred. You can’t be an invader and a liberator at the same time! It is impossible to start a war so that there is no war, to kill a person so that, God forbid, he does not die. Out of there come the pious calls to distance oneself from one’s pain and instead to love one’s enemies, look just as hypocritical and cynical is helping those affected by the “crisis”.

First, wipe the city off the face of the earth, take out (read, “steal”) thousands of tons of metal products, equipment, grain and then collect 15 tons of humanitarian aid: napkins, warm boots and five glasses of water. Love!.. And everyone is calm, we are all Christians and we care about our neighbor. And most importantly, we pray, yes, we pray that “the conflicting parties come to peace.”

How to live in a changed world? Continue to wake up the sleepers with new fresh facts? To call each other to conscience and brotherly compassion? What will it give? Only and everything that you hear once again: “Where were you for 8 years?” and “let us not interfere with the Lord in His actions!”

An unbelieving (again) person, Fazil Iskander said: “Decency does not imply heroism, it implies non-participation in meanness.” This is decency. But what does Christianity mean and how should it be expressed? Each of us must answer this question for ourselves. Sententious of course, but true. Have a blessed day!
