Are we numbering our days?

Paul’s testimony was: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” What will your testimony be?

Teach us to number our days

Wisdom is to seek the will of God.
When Moses wrote Psalm 90, he was thinking about how quickly life goes by. He also repeatedly stated how short life is (see verses 4-9). In conclusion, he says: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12. Paul also exhorts us: “So, behold, proceed with caution, not as fools, but as wise, cherishing the time, for the days are evil. So, do not be foolish, but learn what the will of God is. ” Ephesians 5: 16-18. Seeking to do God’s will is the wisest decision we can make on this earth. And if we do this, we will gain a wise heart.

Jesus sought this wisdom in the days of His flesh: “Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offeringsyou were not pleased. Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll— I have come to do your will, my God.” Heb. 10: 5-7. Jesus also testified: “I can do nothing of Myself. As I hear, so I judge, and My judgment is righteous; for I do not seek My will, but the will of the Father who sent Me. ” John 5:30. He was completely occupied with thoughts of doing the will of the Father.

How do we live?

All New Testament epistles are written to help believers find the will of God. For example, John exhorts us: “Do not love the world, nor that which is in the world: he who loves the world does not have the love of the Father in him. For everything in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not from the Father, but from this world. And the world is passing away, and its lust, but he who does the will of God abides forever. ” 1 John 2: 15-17. In the epistle of Peter, we also find words that show us the direction: “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. ” 1 Peter 2: 21-23. These and many other exhortations written in the Bible are written so that we can personally know the will of the Lord.

If we choose to count our days as it is written, we will have a bountiful reward in eternal life. Paul, who lived for so many years, knowing that the end of his life was approaching, testifies: “I have fought a good fight, I have completed the course, I have kept the faith; and now a crown of righteousness is being prepared for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day; and not only to me, but to all who have loved His appearing. ” 2 Tim. 4: 7-8.

Let us consider every day of our remaining life as a day lived wisely, striving with all our hearts to fulfill the will of God.
