“…Bear with each other and forgive one another…” Colossians 3:13
When it comes to forgiveness, no one can say it better than Tim Stafford: “I’d rather be cheated a hundred times than have my heart hardened.”
The Bible says that we should live “… bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another.” You can’t choose who to forgive and who not to. Love is a command, forgiveness is an act of obedience. And we have this commandment from Him, that “he who loves Yahweh should also love his brother!” (John 4: 21).
You can’t be closer to Yahweh than the person you love the least.
Yahweh has set the bar so high because anger is like cancer and forgiveness is a laser that removes it.
Bitterness chains us to the past, destroys families, divides congregations, and poisons relationships.
Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the handcuffs of hatred.
Take your hurt feelings before Yahweh and say: “See if I am on the path of pain and lead me on the eternal path!” (Psalm 139: 24). It takes courage to do this, but He answers such a prayer.
It will get easier as you grow in Yeshua, until then you have to work on it.
As a child of Yahweh, His Spirit lives within you. You are no longer a slave to sin (see Romans 6:14).
Yahweh knows that it is not easy to forgive deep wounds, but He will give you the grace to do so.
“Bearing one another” means taking a benevolent perspective and considering extenuating circumstances.
People improve and change over time, so don’t hold on to a limited and outdated view of them. Try to see them as they are now. Most people do the best they can based on their knowledge and current understanding, so give them a chance!
