Read Psalm 118:19-24

This is the day which the Lord has made: let us rejoice and be glad in it! (Psalm 118:24)

In the morning, while washing the dishes in the kitchen, I heard happy chirping outside the window. I had lived in the heart of the Philippine capital for more than 30 years, but I had never heard birdsong there before. How did the songbird get into town? I suddenly remembered that the government had recently introduced nationwide traffic restrictions to reduce air pollution. As a result, the environment became cleaner and quieter, and the birds have also noticed this. Cleaner air attracts birds to our roofs to cheer the city dwellers with their songs. The birdsong in the morning was so enjoyable that I listened to it for a long time. I thought about how often our minds are polluted with confusion, weariness, and doubts that rob us of joy. At such times, the Scriptures can renew our souls and spirits. The Creator can refresh us internally and make an ordinary day special.

Dear Lord, help us to remember that You have made this day too. Help us enjoy it. Amen.
