Boris Grisenko: Our prayer can do more than we think

At the last service, one of our brothers told the story of how the family of his unbelieving friends, through his prayer and the prayers of other brothers and sisters, was able to leave the territory occupied by Russian troops. They calmly drove through 23 Russian checkpoints, the Belarusian border, all of Belarus and drove through Poland to Germany. Finally stopping, coming to their senses and analyzing what had happened, these friends said that they had no other explanation for this miracle, except for prayer. Moreover, the head of the family said that he was completely and unusually calm under machine guns at all checkpoints, although he is a very impulsive person.

Friends, our prayers not only bring external protection for our loved ones, relatives, friends, even if they are unbelievers, in the most incredible circumstances. This is something beyond our ordinary faith. We think: “Well, these are unbelieving people. Of course, we will pray that the Lord will protect them from the outside…” But it can even be difficult for us to believe that our prayer has a complex answer – not only from the outside, but also from the inside – unbelieving friends,  relatives in abnormal circumstances begin to react in a way that is not logical, in a way that they could never have reacted before!

We must understand how much our joint, family community prayer is stronger than we think and imagine. It operates at different levels – from the outside and inside. It can remove such obstacles… Sometimes it seems to us that even in relation to ourselves we cannot remove this, because we often do not imagine the power of our prayer. We have no idea what kind of angels fight for us. We have no idea what the Spirit of God can do, despite our weaknesses, fears and still remaining insecurities. We have no idea how God can take and turn our weaknesses into His strength. If He did this to our brother’s unbelieving friends, how much more, stronger, and deeper can He work in our lives!
