Holly Furtick: “Come back and do what God has already told you”

Sometimes we feel that we do not have enough strength, knowledge, skills and resources to fulfill God’s purpose. We begin to compare ourselves with others, thinking that their life is much better than ours. But at this very moment God wants to draw our attention to what He has already told us to do. Holly Furtick shared in her sermon about the importance of stopping looking at our imperfection and doing what God has called us to do.

“For many years of my life I have struggled with the opinion that I am just a girl. It doesn’t matter that I have three children and I am the wife of Stephen Furtick. The road to confidence has become difficult for me. I thought, “Why didn’t God give another wife to my husband or another mother to my children?” It seemed to me that I was not good enough.

I looked at Instagram, Facebook, looked at girls of my age and it seemed that most likely they had already done quite a lot in their life, were founded as wives, mothers, as business women. And then the thought crept in: “What about me?” I have often felt that who I am was not enough. Because in my head I was still just “just a girl.” But let’s turn to the Bible and look at Mary, the mother of Jesus. When the angel came to her and said that she would have a child, Mary asked: “How will it be?” She asked the right question.

It’s not a question of doubt, it’s a matter of direction, because she was not married. At the same time, an angel came to Zechariah and said that he would have a son – John the Baptist. Zachariah did not believe and was deprived of his voice. It’s okay to feel like you’re missing something. But stop asking God to confirm your destiny.

Often I ask God, “Are you sure I should do this?” Then I browse social media and see how people are doing perfect. At this moment, I begin to think that if I were in their place, I would definitely be fine. And I hear God say to me, “Holly, I have called you, stop avoiding this and just start doing it.”

The enemy wants to tell you that you have to do too much to feel worthy of the calling God intended for you. But it is so important to learn to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, who will guide you in what He has called you to. Perhaps today He will ask you to apologize to someone, say something kind to your husband, spend time with your children.

Sometimes we so often seek confirmation from God. But I believe that when I lower my head and silently obediently do my work, God will give me confirmation, inspire me. But not because I am looking for it, but because if I only seek inspiration, I will never find it because my heart will not be ready to accept it.

It’s important to know who you are. Mary knew who she was and she focused on that. She could make a list of why she was not worthy of God’s calling. But she saw herself as God’s chosen instrument for His purpose.

Move towards your mission. Many of us feel lost today. But I believe that God is telling you today, “Come back and do what I told you to do, and I will show you the next step when the time comes.”

And even if it’s difficult, don’t go astray, just keep moving towards your mission. Remember who you are and who called you. “
