In 2021, fines in the amount of 2,285,000 rubles were issued in the Russian Federation for “illegal” missionary work

Judicial statistics on cases of “illegal” missionary work for 2021 have been published. On April 20, 2022, the Judicial Department under the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation published statistics on the number of cases under Art. 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (violation of legislation on freedom of conscience, freedom of religion and religious associations), considered by the courts in 2021, Christian Megaportal inVictory reports with reference to the SOVA center.

According to the department, the number of cases dealt with under this article has decreased slightly compared to the previous year, with 327 cases dealt with in 2021 (versus 335 in 2020).

201 persons were punished under them, of which 119 individuals, 78 legal entities, 4 officials (in 2020 – 217: 141, 71 and 5, respectively).

Fines remained the most commonly used form of punishment, with 181 cases being imposed. In 20 cases, a warning was issued. In 13 cases, the punishment was supplemented by confiscation, in 4 cases – by administrative expulsion from the Russian Federation.

The total amount of fines under the decisions that have entered into force amounted to 2,285,000 rubles.
