Jewish population in the world: updated statistics

On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish Agency reported that the number of Jews in the world has reached 15.2 million – 100,000 more than a year earlier. 55% of Jews live in the diaspora.

Nevertheless, it is Israel that takes the first place in terms of the Jewish population – it is 6 million 930 thousand people. In second place is the United States, where there are about 6 million Jews, followed by France, where 446,000 Jews live, and Canada, with a Jewish community of 393,000.

In fifth place is Great Britain, there are 292 thousand Jews, followed by Argentina (175 thousand Jews), Russia, where there are 150 thousand Jews. In Germany and Australia, 118 thousand Jews each, Brazil, where 91 thousand Jews live, closes the top ten.

The Jewish population of Muslim countries does not exceed 27 thousand people. 14,500 of them live in Turkey, 9,500 in Iran, 2,000 in Morocco and 1,000 in Tunisia.

Sokhnut emphasizes that the data is based on Jewish self-identification, and not on affiliation with religious institutions. It is also noted that the number of persons eligible for repatriation to Israel exceeds 25 million people.
