This statement was made by the head of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill, at the consecration of the Prince Vladimir Church, which is called the Main Temple of the National Guard, in Balashikha.
“Those who are entrusted with the duty of protecting the borders of our homeland have a special responsibility, because they can aim anywhere, but they will hit Russia. Today, this country is a kind of pillar and foundation of the truth.
Today we prayed for all our military and, of course, especially for our National Guard. We prayed that the Lord would give strength to those who are called to defend the homeland, strengthen their will and most importantly, strengthen their awareness of the rightness of the act that every soldier does, defending his homeland.”
It is worth noting that the Bible calls the Church “the pillar and foundation of the truth” (see 1 Tim. 3:15). To say this about any nation or country is to challenge the Scriptures. The patriarch is certainly aware of this but nevertheless he blesses the country that started the war in Europe with an epithet that has nothing to do with that country and never will have.
