Sexy Mama? How should a woman of God dress?

Many Christian women try their best to look “sexy”. Some strive for this unconsciously, while others – quite consciously. They like to catch the admiring and lustful glances of other men on themselves. Increasingly, God’s daughters are uploading their photos to social media, where they pose, emphasizing the curves and shapes of their bodies, pouting their mouth, showing off their revealing clothes, their beach photos, etc.

Then, Christian and non-Christian friends write comments like “Sexy mama” underneath such photos. Christian women follow the image of the world, lose a sense of holiness and respect for their own bodies, attracting attention and arousing the sexual desires of men who are not for them. It is sad to see how women lose themselves behind “duck lips”, “revealing clothes”, just for likes, comments, emoticons, etc.

In response to any criticism, one can immediately hear that “God does not look at the outside,” “God sees my heart,” “Jesus gave me freedom,” etc. However, no woman who has claims to the Kingdom of God should treat this area of life lightly, since the Creator has a very clear position on the issue of the body and holds clearly defined standards of holiness. The apostle Paul says about this:

“Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ to make [them] the members of a harlot? Let it not be! ”(1 Cor. 6:15).

The world, blurring the boundaries of true femininity, turns a woman into a sexual object, into a body that must always find its consumer. We must remember that God is the Creator of a woman and her essence, and He has a very clear plan of true femininity. In His Word, the Lord promotes women’s freedom, dignity and honor. According to the Holy Scriptures, the true beauty of a woman does not depend either on the era or on the culture in which she lives. According to God’s concepts, female beauty is not external adornments, “not external braiding of hair, not golden jewelry or fancy dress”; quite the opposite, real beauty is manifested in “the innermost part, in the heart … in the incorruptible [beauty] of a meek and silent spirit, which is precious before God” (1 Peter 3: 3-4).

“Strength and beauty are her clothing, and she gazes joyfully at the future.” – Proverbs 31:25.

This in no way means that a woman should neglect her appearance, on the contrary, a woman of God should be very attentive to her appearance and very selective in her clothes.

“Do you not know that your bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit living in you, whom you have received from God, and you are not your own? For you have been bought [at] a price. Therefore, glorify God both in your bodies and in your souls, which are from God ”(1 Cor. 6: 19-20).

God’s commandment says that we should glorify God “in our bodies and in our souls,” since both belong to God. There is no doubt that inner and outer humility are closely related. This is not the subjective opinion of the author of the article, this is the undeniable will of God for us, godly women.

So how should a woman of God dress?

“… So that also women, in decent attire, with shyness and chastity, adorn themselves not with braiding [hair], not gold, not pearls, not garments of great value” (1 Tim. 2: 9).

1) Decently (Strong g2887 gr .: κόσμιος (cosmos): “decent, clean, appropriate and beautiful, showing respect for others.”

2) Shyness (Strong g127 with gr: αἰδώς (aidos): “modest, restrained clothing that covers the body, without revealing or exposing any parts of it; shy dress, expressing respect and honor for others.”

3) Chastity (Strong g4997 with gr: σωφροσύνη (sofrosune): sanity, self-control, sobriety. “Dress moderately and simply; not with luxury goods seeking vanity, causing envy in others; do not be in love with expensive clothes.” , not pearls, not valuable clothing, ”because your investment speaks of your priority and shows where your heart is.

“Like a gold ring in a pig’s nose is a woman who is beautiful and ill-advised.” – Proverbs 11:22.

Two important Biblical principles that can help you to solve the problem of modesty in clothing:

1) Don’t dress in such a way that your clothes and/or your jewelry attracts the attention of others.

This principle concerns our inner urges for pride and vanity which are in our hearts.

“The Lord says, “The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying hips,
with ornaments jingling on their ankles. Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion; the Lord will make their scalps bald.”” (Isaiah 3: 16-17)

2) Do not force others to sin either by your clothes, or by your behavior, or by your looks.

Imagine a person who comes to church in search of God. He bows in prayer, and in front of him is a woman in a transparent and tight dress.

When a woman wears tight, transparent and short clothing, she becomes the enemy’s weapon against the Spirit of Worship. Instead of bringing blessing to the body of Christ, she brings temptation. Are you a stumbling block for those who seek God, for those who yearn for holiness, seeking the salvation of their souls?

“Since both the body and the soul are the temple of the Holy Spirit, He commands us to keep them in purity and holiness: therefore, He forbids all impure actions, gestures, words, thoughts, desires and everything that can attract the same kind of people” (Heidelberg Catechism, questions and answers 109).

What about female sexuality?

For this there is your marriage bedroom, because your sexuality must be sacred, completely separate only for the person you call “my husband.”

“Who will find a virtuous wife? her price is higher than pearls. ”- Proverbs 31:10
