Now may the God of hope fill me with all joy and peace in believing that I may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (1)
I have strong consolation, because I have fled to You for refuge, to lay hold of the hope set before me. This hope I have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast. (2)
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (3)
I am confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in me will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. (4)
Through the LORD’s mercies I am not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” (5)
Amen!

THE SOURCE of all hope is the love of God. Paul says:
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word. 2 Thessalonians 2:16–17 NASB
Let’s meditate on these words. The first thing we see is that the source of hope is God’s love. The ultimate power behind the universe is the love of God. When we know God as Father, we have this kind of hope—a gift of His love. It proceeds from a confidence in His unvarying love and faithfulness.
Hope comes through Christ because Paul mentions not only God our Father but the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. He is the only channel through which love and hope from God can come into our lives.
Hope is a gift by grace. God gave us “eternal comfort and good hope by grace.” Grace cannot be earned, so hope can be received only by faith.
With hope comes comfort that goes beyond time. Our expectations, anticipations, and satisfactions are not limited to this brief span of our lifetime—but we look forward to, and make preparation for, eternity.
Hope makes us strong for holy living. A hopeless person is a weak person, with no real motivation. A person with hope endures in times of hardship and trouble. God strengthens his heart through this hope.
The source of hope is God’s love. It comes through Christ. It is a gift by grace. It is eternal. It makes us strong for holy living.
