The power of tongue is limitless – both for good and for evil

With our tongue we can bless and we can curse; we can create and destroy; we can hurt and heal; we can bring great good and equally great evil.

The power of language is also frightening because we ourselves cannot control it. Again and again our lives force us to recognize the truth written in James 3:8 but no human being can tame the tongue.

Therefore, there is only one and only way: to submit our tongue to God through the Holy Spirit and ask Him to control our tongue. To help us do this, here are two of David’s prayers that are a good example for us:

Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Ps.141:3.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. Ps.19:15.
