Will You Take the Narrow Road Chosen by Few?

Jesus Christ taught us that there is a very narrow road that leads to eternal life, and there is a wide road that leads to destruction. He said that He is the only way of salvation.

He told us to stand on the truth of God’s Word, maintain godly morals, love those who hate us and forgive all those who have wronged us. God has provided us with this moral standard not to restrict us but to protect us.

In today’s world, truth is rejected by more of the population and is actually considered narrow-minded. Tolerance has become the high moral ground instead of truth. We’re told we must accept everyone’s beliefs, no matter how morally depraved. To speak the truth is considered offensive and exclusive.

It’s true that the Bible says being a Christian is showing love and forgiveness to those who mistreat you and even hate you. However, it does not mean we tolerate immorality and compromise God’s Word simply because society has changed. People change and the times change, but truth never changes. There is a right and a wrong, and God’s Word is our standard.

As we look back on the example Jesus set, He did not tolerate the religious leaders’ actions. They did not practice what they preached. He told them they were hypocrites, liars, full of dead men’s bones and from their father the devil (see Matt. 23:13-39). When someone was in sin, He didn’t say, “I understand you’ve had a bad day, so your wrong choices are excusable.” He was not concerned with offending people, and He didn’t try to comfort them in their sin. He didn’t condemn them, but He told them to go and sin no more. Jesus showed love and forgiveness to everyone who called on His name—and He still does today. He also told them to repent and turn from their lifestyles.

Christians are warned to stay away from evil, guard our eyes from what we watch and be wise with our associations. Jesus told us to follow Him. He told us not to look back and to keep His commandments. He told us to pray often, to read His Word daily and to guard our hearts. He told us not to speak evil or negatively about anyone. He told us to turn from our sins and to forgive others who sin against us. He told us to share His Word and to feed the poor. He said if someone takes our shirt, we should give them our coat too. He said to love our enemies, pray for those who despitefully use us, bless those who curse us and do good to them that hate us.

Being a devoted Christ-follower is not for wimps. The good news is that it is not in our strength that we walk in His ways. It is God who gives us the grace and ability to obey Him. It’s not a burden but a delight. As we stand for biblical truth—loving our enemies, telling people there is only one way to heaven, warning people hell awaits those who reject Jesus—we will encounter opposition. Most often, obeying God’s Word is contrary to how society lives, but if we want to be victorious, we will have to obey His Word. If we cower from walking in these truths, we will be struggling and defeated throughout our lives.

Are you up to the calling? Will you take a stand for God’s Word? Will you take the wide road that most are traveling, or will you choose the narrow road traveled by few?
