Yahweh forgives iniquity and transgressions and sin. Exodus 34:7
In Hebrew, there are three words for sin: Päsha, Awon and Chet – selfishness, falling away and error.
Päsha describes a person who does not recognize that he is accountable to Yahweh for himself and his actions. He considers as good those activities which he likes and which correspond to his goals, while everything incompatible with him and his goals as bad.
Awon comes from the word “to hide, to be crooked”. It describes a person who gives up the pursuit of good. It also represents those traits that make him do evil, go in the wrong direction and do wrong things.
Chet is the weakest of the three concepts. It means “to miss, to fall short” and to deviate from the right path, either because of a weak character or lack of persistence, not to reach the goal. It is an unintentional sin that could have been avoided if more care had been taken.
