The world has conquered too much space in us, and we are overwhelmed by the idea that we will achieve nothing if we do not rush here and there. We no longer believe in the importance of a quiet retreat where we sit quietly in the shadows. As God’s people, we have become too practical. We believe that we must have all our “irons in the fire” and that the time spent away from the anvil is a waste of time. However, it is not possible to spend time more usefully than to take time to meditate quietly, to talk to God, and to look towards heaven. We never have too many such free moments – the hours we have set aside to open our souls completely to every heavenly thought or influence that God sends our way.
Someone once said, “Meditation is the Saturday of the mind.” On these hectic days, we should often give our minds a “Saturday.” A time when it is not working, but simply in silence, looks to heaven and throws himself before the Lord like Gideon´s fleece, allowing himself to be impregnated through heavenly dew. We should have time intervals where we do nothing, think nothing, and plan nothing, but we simply lie on the green lap of nature and rest a little (Mark 6:31).
The time spent in this way is not wasted. A fisherman does not say that he is wasting time repairing his nets. Nor does the gardener say that he takes the time to sharpen the blades of his lawnmower. And the people who live in the cities today would do well to follow Isaac’s example and, as far as possible, find time to visit the outdoors, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. After you are tired and exhausted from the heat and noise of the city, fellowship with nature is very refreshing and has a healing and soothing effect. A walk in the field, along the beach or a hike on a hill full of daisies will cleanse you of the impurities of life and make your heart beat with new joy and hope.
The small worries that worried me I lost them yesterday out in the fields with God.
